Abstract

Introduction: Burnout Syndrome is an occupational phenomenon of exposure to chronic stress in the workplace, divided into a feeling of exhaustion, increased mental distance from work and reduced professional effectiveness. Currently, the job market is demanding an innovative and progressive profile from professionals, especially in times of pandemic, which makes the work environment a place of pressure and physical and psychological imbalances. Objective: To identify whether there is evidence of exposure to Burnout syndrome by physical therapists who work in the care of patients with Covid-19 through an integrative literature review. Methodology: Study of integrative literature review, carried out by selecting scientific articles from the Virtual Health Library databases between 2019 and 2021 by the descriptors ‘Physiotherapists; Professional exhaustion; Burnout’. A form was created with information about authors, title, objective, year and country of publication, study design, main results and level of evidence. The results were listed in tables, an analysis of the collected information was carried out and the most relevant findings were discussed. Results: Seven articles were analyzed after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the studies were carried out in Poland (42.8%), Italy (28.6%), South Korea (14.3%) and in Portugal (14.3%) and published in English (100%). The majority (71.4%) used the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire to identify the Burnout Syndrome in professionals. It was found that most of the physiotherapists evaluated in the studies (85.7%) had a high level of Burnout, mainly due to emotional exhaustion (85.7%). Conclusion: It is necessary to identify conflict and disaster management strategies in the health area in order to implement measures to promote the health of professionals and prevent diseases, especially those at the psycho-emotional level.
