Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The nutritional status of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing renal replacement therapy is a matter of concern and challenge for the multidisciplinary teams that assist them. Thus, periodic monitoring of nutritional status should be part of the follow-up of these patients.

OBJECTIVE: Associate intuitive eating with nutritional status, food consumption and physical activity level of individuals with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment.

METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study with 77 individuals with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis, treated at a hemodialysis center. The study was developed through a questionnaire containing sociodemographic questions. To assess intuitive eating, the Intuitive Eating Scale – 2 was used. For anthropometric assessment, pre-dialysis weight and dry weight (weight at the end of the dialysis session) were assessed, as well as height and the Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated.

RESULTS: Of the 77 participants, 49.3% (n=38) were female and 50.75 (n=39) were male, with a mean age of 54.29 years. Of those evaluated, 15.8% (n=12) presented a classification of nutritional status as low weight, 40.8% (n=31) eutrophic, 19.7% (n=15) overweight and 23.7% (n= 18) obesity. When the association of intuitive eating with nutritional status was performed, there was no significant difference with dry weight, interdialytic weight gain and BMI (p ≥ 0.05).

CONCLUSION: It was possible to observe that there was no association of the intuitive eating scale with the nutritional status, food consumption and level of physical activity of individuals with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment.
