INTRODUCTION: Occupational violence can have devastating consequences, and it is possible to see that professionals are prone to all types of aggression, exposing them to risk and compromising health services, in addition to feeling demotivated and weakened.
OBJECTIVE: to assess the impact of occupational violence on multidisciplinary teams working in primary care in the municipality, considering the moral, psychological and social impacts.
METHODS: Qualitative, descriptive, exploratory and field research, carried out in 12 Basic Health Units in the city of Patrocínio. Data collection was carried out through the application of a semi-structured interview, with open questions related to work and its routine in the institution, in addition to possible violence suffered from patients and co-workers. The interviews were conducted in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Data referring to the sociodemographic profile and emerging themes were interpreted based on content analysis.
RESULTS: Occupational violence is still treated in a veiled way, and during a survey it was possible to notice the insecurity of professionals in talking about the topic, as there was little adherence to data collection. In addition, it was possible to identify symptoms of disrespect, anguish, fear, sadness and psychological distress.
CONCLUSION: The importance of discussing the topic in the workplace was noticed, as a way to bring information to everyone who attends the environment, in order to avoid situations that cause harm to professionals. The preparation of formal resolution measures for such situations are also essential, as they will contribute to resolving the situation, which can provide security and shelter for victims of violence.
